LED for Me - Interpet Tri-spec LED light

Hi Guys,

First of all, I have to say that I have been searching for an LED upgrade for my corner aquarium for some time. I've looked at suspending LED light units from the ceiling or brackets but I didn't want to go open top. I also looked into retrofitting my current T5 original set too but just didn't have the confidence in them.

When I seen a post on the Interpet Facebook page promoting the new Tri-Spec LED systems, I was delighted to learn that they would be compatible with the Trigon 190. Not only were they compatible, they were a direct replacement.

The mix of 6500K 3w White, 2w Red Intense and 1w Blue Moon LEDs create higher light output than my old T5 lights or T8 and even some other LED systems. Basically this means greater plant growth potential and brighter fish colours for me.

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, look at the photo below which is my old lights.

As you can see, I had a lot of yellow from my old lights. This reflected of the gravel which resulted in the above. While the viewing experience was still bright it had a yellow tint to it which I didn't like.
The Tri-Spec arrived and I was able to fit it directly in place of the original light unit. No cutting, or adjustments required. I literally swapped them, plugged them in and was blown away. Now, Im not proclaiming to be a light expert. This is my first LED ling unit so my perspective is purely from a T5 to LED point of view. Take a look at these photos and see for yourself.

This mode displays blue, red and white. Up close you can really see the reds coming through on the plants and fish.
Moonlight mode is great at night. The flicker effect is nice too and  my fish swim in and out of the light, its interesting to see the fish react to this mode.
These lights can be controlled and customised remotely by the use of an app. Ive not got the app (or the optional app controller insert) so I can't  give my opinion on that function but I like the idea of customising the colours and timing to suit my lifestyle. This would also be handy if you were using CO2 on a timer.

An added bonus for me is the better quality of photos I'm getting now I'm using brighter lights. the clarity of photos now are amazing. No more yellow tinge to them.

So if you are in the market for a new LED light, wether its to suspend above, clip onto existing lights or to replace your existing ones, the Tri-Spec from Interpet is an option worth looking at. My model was the 60cm-80cm model and retails around £110.

This is my own experience with this specific model and please remember, these are my first LED lights but Im very happy with them and recommend them to anybody with the Juwel Trigon 190 who is still running T5 or T5 light units.

Thanks for reading guys and look out for the video soon.

bye for now.
